Mike was born and raised on Weig Road in the Cockett Ward attending Gendros and Penlan schools before working on local industrial estates and joining the Ministry of Defence Police at 20. He lives near Ravenhill Park with his partner Suzanne. He is happiest spending time with his family and watching local cricket on sunny afternoons.

After Higher Education studies at Swansea University, he worked as a Care Officer with adults with learning disabilities and with children in the care system, moving into management roles in local and national government, before a 12 year period as the lead officer of the multi-award-winning Hill Community Development Trust and the Phoenix Centre. He works full-time teaching a range of topics on both the Public Services and Health and Social Care programmes at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

Mike was elected as a councillor in May 2017.
