Cockett

Situated approximately three kilometres north-west of the city centre, Cockett ward groups the localities of Cockett, Fforestfach and Gendros (west of Cwmbwrla and Townhill, and south of Penderry), together with Waunarlwydd which lies two kms further west (to the east of Gowerton).

The ward is crossed by Carmarthen Road (A483), the main arterial route from the city centre westwards, and by the A4216 running south to Sketty and Mumbles.

In common with other western suburbs of Swansea, Cockett is largely the result of late Victorian and 20th Century expansion. Cockett ward has a population of 14,100 and is in the Welsh Government and UK Parliamentary Constituency of Swansea West.

Part of the ward is in the Communities First North West Cluster area. The ward as a whole covers 860 hectares and has a population density of 15.5 people per hectare.

Major employers are Tesco, Parc Fforestfach and Pontarddulais Road Retail Parks, Swansea West Business Park, South Wales Police (divisional headquarters), and Timet UK.
