Sketty

Sketty

The ward has a population of around 14,300 and lies approximately three kms west of Swansea city centre, consisting of the Tycoch, Sketty, Derwen Fawr and Sketty Park localities.

Having Uplands, Cockett, Killay North, Killay South and  Mayals as its neighbouring wards Sketty  has the fifth largest ward population in Swansea and 11th highest population density.

It has a relatively low proportion of children (aged 0-15) and people aged 25-44.

It is a ward with four distinctive housing areas: (i) Derwen Fawr – home for many of the managerial classes and the upwardly mobile, being close to the sea, green and rich in parkland and open space; (ii) Sketty – an established and largely affluent residential area, founded around a picturesque Victorian village that had rapidly expanded at the beginning of the 19th century, providing many large properties; (iii) Sketty Park – largely the product of the post war social housing boom and still dominated by social housing provision, and  (iv) Tycoch – also centred on an old village, it accommodated significant northward extension in the late 1970s to 1990s.
