Uplands

Uplands

Uplands has a population of around 16,000 and is situated approximately one km west of Swansea city centre and consists mainly of Brynmill, St Helen’s, Uplands and Ffynone.

Three of the four wards are represented by Labour Party councillors John Bayliss, Nick Davies and Neill Woollard.

Uplands has the second largest ward population in Swansea and the highest ward population density.

A very large proportion of the population is aged between 16 and 24, mainly due university and college students living in private, rented housing.

The high student population means it is an area of high population turnover mostly via in/out migration of students and young adults.

The birth and death rates are well below Swansea averages with high proportion of residents born outside the UK.

Recent data indicates claimant unemployment in Uplands below the Swansea average, with DWP benefit claimant rates also lower.
