A special bin for disposable barbeques has been installed for beachgoers on Swansea front.
Uplands councillors Nick Davies and Mary Sherwood have provided the bin out of their council community budget.
The bin is situated by the slipway close to the 360 Café Bar.
“There had been a problem with fires being caused by disposable barbeques left in ordinary bins, so we are hoping to solve that with the provision of this barbeque bin,” said Cllr Davies.
“We wanted to get the bin in place before the summer so people get used to it being there ready for the warmer weather. Hopefully, beachgoers can now can now enjoy barbeques knowing there is a safe way to dispose of them afterwards.”
Cllr Sherwood added: “The council is about to launch a prevention strategy that looks to save public services money before a problem occurs. This fits very nicely into that strategy.”
The bin also comes with a shovel to help the public dispose of any hot barbeque coal safely.
Cllrs Davies and Sherwood have so far provided the one bin but say that if there is demand for more further down the beach they will look into this.
