I was born in Croydon in South London and was brought up in Thornton Heath. I was educated at St Mary’s Secondary Modern School in West Croydon. On leaving school I worked as a storeman in a small retail outlet of Superdrug Ltd.
On leaving Superdrug I joined the NHS and have been involved with the NHS and the Trade Union Movement ever since.
My hobbies are football, reading and gardening. I support my childhood heroes Crystal Palace and since moving to Swansea have become an avid follower of Wales’ only Premier League team. I should add my son’s first visit to a football match was when I took him to the Vetch Field when he was a toddler.
I am married to Debbie and have an 18-year-old boy, Jim, who is in Sixth Form at Bishop Vaughan School.
