I joined the Labour Party about 1980 and  in 1983 stood for the party in the district election for Lliw Valley Borough Council, where I was successful.

Having been re-elected in 1987 I became Chairman of the Licensing Committee. In 1996 I was elected onto the Unitary authority of The City and County of Swansea.

This year I am Lord Mayor of The City and County of Swansea. I am a Deputy Cabinet Member, and Chairman of Development Cabinet Advisory Committee.

In Pontarddulais I am a member of the Town Council, and this year I  have been honoured by being elected as the Town’s Mayor.

I am vice-chairman of Governors in the Primary school, and chairman of Resources at the Comprehensive school.  I am President of Pontarddulais Football Club, after serving the club as treasurer for 40 years.
