Rob Stewart

Cabinet Member
Economy and Strategy (Leader)

Electoral Ward: Morriston

  01792 549 417

I have lived in Swansea all my life and was educated at Morriston Comprehensive before going on to study at Tycoch College and Swansea University.

I represented the Morriston Ward as a Labour councillor since 2003.  Following the local elections in 2012, I was appointed as Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources in the new Labour administration, before becoming Leader of the Council in September 2014.

I have significant experience working in national and regional Government. In the the past 10 years I have been Programme and Project Manager for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency where I led the delivery of the online Driver Licence Service and the redesign of the new UK ID documents including the UK Driving Licence and National identity card for foreign nationals.

I am also Director of Swansea Business Improvement District, the Swansea Stadium Management Company, and a member of the Swansea Bay City Region where I have led on the regeneration of Swansea City Centre and the Swansea City Deal.

I am a keen rugby supporter and season ticket holder at the Liberty Stadium where I am an avid Ospreys supporter.  I am also a keen musician and play a number of instruments including piano, keyboard and organ.
