Located approximately 9.5 km north-east of Swansea city centre, Clydach ward consists of the Graigfelen, Clydach and Glais localities. Neighbouring Wards are Llansamlet, Morriston and Mawr. Part of the ward is in the Communities First North East Cluster area.

The ward covers 848 hectares and has a population density of 8.8 people per hectare, with a total population of 7,500. It is in the Welsh Government and UK Parliamentary Constituency of Gower.

Major employers are Vale INCO, City & County of Swansea (schools), Players Field Industrial Estate businesses.

Clydach Ward has the 12th largest ward population in Swansea, but is only the 22nd most densely populated. Its age profile generally follows that of Swansea, but with a slightly higher proportion aged under 16 and lower proportion of 16-24 year olds. Birth and death rates are both below the Swansea average.
