Gowerton ward is situated 6.4 kms north-west of the city centre and is in the Welsh Government and UK Parliamentary Constituency of Gower. It has a population of 5,200 and is bordered by Lower Loughor, Upper Loughor, Kingsbridge, Cockett, Killay North, Dunvant, Fairwood and Penclawdd.

The ward covers a total area of 765 hectares and has a population density of 6.8 people per hectare. Its major employers are City & County of Swansea schools.

Gowerton ward has the 18th largest ward population in Swansea, and 25th highest population density. It has slightly higher proportions of 5-15 year olds compared to the Swansea average, and lower proportions of people aged 16-24 and 75+.

It has below average birth and death rates and is home to a higher proportion of people born in Wales, able to speak Welsh and with higher level qualifications. The ward is also home to an above average proportion of couple/family households.
