Townhill has a population 8,700 and is represented by Lesley Walton, David Hopkins and Cyril Anderson.
The ward is situated approximately one km north west of Swansea approximately one km north west of Swansea city centre, consisting of the Townhill and Mayhill localities. Townhill ward is located on the steep hill of the same name and overlooks the city centre, the SA1/docklands area and Swansea Bay. Its neighbouring wards are wards are Cwmbwrla, Castle, Uplands, and Cockett.
Townhill is the ninth largest ward population in Swansea, but fourth most densely populated. There is higher proportion of under-16s compared with the Swansea average.
Within Townhill there is a high proportion of people born in Wales and outside UK, in non-white ethnic groups.
The entire ward has been designated as a ‘Communities First’ area by the Welsh Government in recognition of long-term social and economic disadvantage. It is comprised of the communities of Townhill and Mayhill, often known collectively as ‘the Hill’.
The area is dominated by inter-War local authority council housing and the levels of owner occupation in the ward remain fairly low, with local authority rented housing accounting for 56% of the stock.
