Swansea Labour councillors in Llansamlet have organised special free lunch clubs over the school holidays.
Over the past couple of years the councillors have identified a problem in their ward concerning ‘holiday hunger’ and are determined help those families and others who are struggling to make ends meet.
Councillors Alyson Pugh, Ryland Doyle, Penny Matthews and Mo Sykes have two more free community lunches organised at Trallwn Community Centre this Friday (August 23) and on Friday, August 30 from 12 until 2. The hot lunches are arranged for all ages.
The councillors are also indebted to the input of Swansea East MP Carolyn Harris and Swansea Council.
“It is unfortunate that in this day and age there are a lot of families out there really struggling to make ends meet especially at a time when children are out of school,” explained Cllr Pugh.
“This was a problem we identified in 2017 and we have been determined to help those families in need. But the lunches are not just for families and are directed at anyone who may be struggling – all ages are welcome and you don’t need to have a child to come along.
“Because of continued austerity and problems caused by Universal credit it is a problem that is just not going away unfortunately.”
