THE biggest music weekend of the year has just got a whole lot bigger with nine more big names being added to the list of international stars headlining at the BBC Biggest Weekend in Swansea.
Swansea’s Singleton Park is already hosting Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. Now the BBC has added Sam Smith, Rita Ora, Liam Payne and Camila Cabello to the line-up.
The two-day festival is part of a UK-wide late May Bank Holiday Weekend of music being staged in four locations in the four nations of the UK.
Across the weekend, there will be concerts hosted by BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra & Asian Network, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 6 Music, with extensive TV coverage on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four and sets available on BBC iPlayer, mobile and online.
Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Major Projects, said: “The BBC’s Biggest Weekend is going to be a truly memorable occasion for Swansea and for Wales.
“We’re hugely proud to be one of the four host cities. Last year’s City of Culture bid raised our profile across the UK and among some of the most influential people in the business of music and entertainment. News of yet more internationally-acclaimed acts coming to Swansea for the Biggest Weekend will only build on that.
“It’s going to be a fantastic occasion, it’ll be a great boost to local tourism, hotels and restaurants and I’m sure names like Sam Smith, 30 Seconds to Mars, George Ezra and Stefflon Don will only add to the excitement.”
