My name is Dai Jenkins and I am excited to be standing in May’s elections as one of the Labour candidates in Gowerton ward.

I live 500 metres from the stream that separates Waunarlwydd from Gowerton and am the fourth generation to live in Waunarlwydd. I have always loved being involved in my local community. I am a member of Waunarlwydd RFC and am one of the organisers of the Waunarlwydd Carnival, which raised around 5K (pre Covid) each year for charity. Married to Michelle for 30 years our daughter Laura-May is a Nurse and our youngest daughter Beth qualifies as a Midwife come July this year. Both Laura and Beth attended Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr.

Over the last 41 years I have worked for B.T and have been a Labour Party member for 30 years. Currently I am a full time Union Officer of the South Wales Branch of the Communication Workers Union.

In 2021 I was active in the “Climate- Change” day of action in Swansea- spoke in Castle square against fire and re-hire contracts, spoke and supported May day’s international workers rally and spoke at “Youth for Jobs” event.

I am an experienced campaigner for the Labour Party in the Gower constituency and am standing for election to Swansea Council in order to bring benefit to the people of Gowerton. I bring a range of life experiences having worked in the motor trade and major retailing for many years. Over the years I have been involved in campaigns to protect green areas as Swansea Local Development Plan (LDP) was being prepared, worked to restore a local Gorseinon post office and secure improved park facilities.

Over the next few weeks, I hope to meet as many people as possible to discuss issues of concern and the priorities for the Gowerton area. As a councillor my priority would be to support the delivery of first-class public service and to ensure that Gowerton continues to benefit from investment by the Labour Council. I am proud of the investment we have seen in local schools especially the work currently being completed at Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr, the planned refurbishment at Gowerton School and the upgrading of the park facilities in Gowerton.
